    ITADAKIMASU

A single Japanese word captures this sense of indebtness to everyone and everything that makes a meal possible: itadakimasu ( pronounced EE ta da kee mas). Saying it at the beginning of a meal honors the sun, the rain, the earthworms, the farmers, the merchants, the cook — everyone and everything that collaborate to bring the meal together. In a word— itadakimasu– you are honoring the Source of Life behind it all….there is no English equivalent. ____ Charles Garfield, Wisdom Circles

A LITTLE LIGHT HUMOR TO GIVE THANKS FROM GARRISON KEILLOR AND RICHARD DWORSKY OF A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION

    “THANKS”
From Garrison Keillor and Richard Dworsky
    A Prairie Home Companion
    November 22, 2008

I am thankful for ATM machines
For the smell of coffee beans
For the dishwasher and for the GPS
Thought up by the Pentagon, a great success
That makes it unnecessary for us men
To ever need to ask for directions again.

Thank you thank you thank you thanks a lot
For what we have and for some things that we do not

I am thankful for macaroni and cheese,
Of mac and cheese I have only good memories
Boil water. Put the macaroni in. It’s
A very nice meal in about ten minutes.

And speaking of food of low status,
Thank you for instant mashed potatoes
Which is simply dehydrated potato flakes.
Mashed potatoes in one-tenth the time it takes
To boil one and whip it up nice and smooth.
And if you want to know the absolute truth
That dry organic peanut butter — I hate it.
I like the kind with sugar and fat, saturated.

Thank you thank you thank you and merci
Peanut butter has always been merciful to me.

And for the U.S. Postal Service I say thanks
Delivering mail from Florida to Fairbanks,

I am grateful for blogs and other new media
And of course for the miraculous Wikipedia
Which puts information at your fingertips
An innovation as great as sailing ships,
Or putting a steam engine on the rails,
So thank you Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales.
And thank you Larry Page and Sergey Brin
Who in 1997 launched a search engine
    Google, which simply is superb
A noun that quickly became a verb.

Please leave a comment and let us know what you are thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday. We wish you a very happy Thanksgiving!

    WITH EVERY BREATH

With every breath I take today,
    I vow to be awake;

    And every step I take,
I vow to take with a grateful heart–

So I may see with eyes of love
into the hearts of all I meet,

To ease their burden when I can
And touch them with a smile of peace.

This is the ending to Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights. It is known as the best ending for any film.

City Lights was made in 1931…silent films ended in 1928. Charlie Chaplin may have known that the power of the human touch could only be effectively conveyed through action and kept the film from being a talkie.

If you haven’t seen the movie, you really want to pay attention to what’s happening in this clip … you will be rewarded with beautiful awareness upon human touch. Then…you will want to watch the entire movie. If you have already seen the movie then you already know how wonderful the ending is and will want to watch the movie again to be emotionally stirred by its message.

ARTISTS AT TANNERY ROW ARTIST COLONY ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER TO IMPROVE ON THEIR TALENTS AND PUT OUT SOME PRETTY FASCINATING PIECES OF ART IN THE PROCESS!
    Tannery Row Website Header

    Judy Isaak, Artist/Potter

Tannery Row Artist Colony is a visual arts center housing over 18 artists with galleries and studios. The historic Tannery building was renovated in 2003 and is located on West Main Street in Buford, Georgia.

Judy Isaak… Artist, Potter, Maker…joined the ranks of artists at Tannery Row Artist Colony in 2004 and made art her full time job. She is largely self-taught. She will tell you that although it takes a long time to learn that way, it means that she is always learning. She is surrounded by other artists and as a result she continues to learn more about herself, other art forms, and how they relate to her own work.

Judy is pictured here holding one of her Horsehair Pottery vases. Horsehair Pottery is absolutely beautiful non-functional pottery made from white clay that has been bisque fired. Find some time this weekend to treat yourself to the creative atmosphere that is Tannery Row Artist Colony, and ask Judy about the rest of the work that goes into making Horsehair Pottery…you will be inspired.
